Mukono District Local Government has paid glowing tribute to one of Buganda region’s most influential figures in both political and social spheres.
Described as a man of illustrious and inspirational legacy, Godfrey Kiwanuka Musisi was honoured for his unwavering commitment to improving the lives of people across Mukono, Buikwe, Buvuma and Kayunga districts during his time in leadership within the local government sector.
A requiem service, filled with heartfelt tributes and powerful reflections, was held at St Luke Church of Uganda in Bukaya, Njeru Municipality, Buikwe District. The former Mukono District Chairperson was remembered as a unifying figure, passionate leader, and tireless public servant.
The service was led by the Bishop of Mukono Diocese, the Rt Rev Enos Kitto Kagodo, who described the late Kiwanuka Musisi as a selfless and visionary leader, a true servant of the people.
“Kiwanuka Musisi leaves behind a legacy of exceptional dedication, service, and leadership. He championed the establishment of the Mukono District Administrative Block, a lasting symbol of governance and stability that continues to serve the people of Mukono today,” Bishop Kagodo remarked.
Delivering his eulogy, Mukono District Chairperson Rev Peter Bakaluba Mukasa said Mzee Sseggwanga Musisi was more than a builder of infrastructure, he built people, institutions, and values.
“As Mukono District and as a nation, we bid farewell to one of the founding pillars of local government, a man who not only built buildings, but nurtured people to serve within them. His impact will outlive us all,” Rev Bakaluba said.
“Mzee Kiwanuka was intelligent, calm, and approachable. We were all mentored by him. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations of leaders in Mukono and beyond,” he added.
Buikwe South Member of Parliament Dr Lulume Bayiga echoed these sentiments, saying that Mzee Sseggwanga Musisi set a high standard for leadership in the greater Mukono area.
“His legacy should guide us during these times. Our elders worked with fairness and commitment to serve the people. Leadership was both a responsibility and a calling for them,” Dr Lulume noted.
Mukono District has accorded the late Kiwanuka Musisi a state funeral, held at the District Council Hall today, ahead of his final resting at his ancestral home in Mawoto Village, Najja Sub-county, Buikwe District.
Kiwanuka Musisi served as the Local Council Chairperson for greater Mukono District from 1992 to 2005, overseeing Mukono, Buikwe, Kayunga and Buvuma districts. His calm demeanour, accessibility, and dedication to mentorship earned him admiration and respect, making him a unifying presence in both political and religious circles.
He also served as Chairperson of the Board of Directors at the Uganda Management Institute (UMI) and was a founding member of the Uganda Local Government Association (ULGA), where he played a key role in shaping Uganda’s decentralised governance framework.
