The 2026 Stanbic Match Play Challenge qualifiers at Entebbe Golf Club witnessed a historic moment as Berna Musanabera delivered a flawless hole-in-one on the par-three 12th hole, winning an Afrisafe-insured Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid—the first-ever hole-in-one car prize in the tournament’s history. Musanabera is also the first female golfer to achieve this remarkable feat.

Her precise shot landed on the green and, with a perfect side spin, rolled straight into the cup, sparking jubilant celebrations among fellow golfers and spectators.

“I can’t believe I’m part of history,” Musanabera said, beaming after her win. “Golf is not just a sport; it’s rewarding. I encourage more golfers, especially women, to participate because opportunities like this exist.”

She praised Stanbic Bank Uganda and other sponsors for their continued investment in growing golf across the country.

Musanabera drove away in her brand-new Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid, provided by CFAO Mobility Uganda. The fuel-efficient vehicle delivers around 21 kilometres per litre and comes with two years of service and a three-year warranty courtesy of Afrisafe Uganda.

The qualifier drew 246 golfers, including Stanbic Bank CEO Mumba Kalifungwa and top players from across Uganda. Ritah Apell, Stanbic Bank’s Head of ICT, applauded the turnout, emphasizing the bank’s dedication to golf.

“Choosing to spend the evening on the greens shows passion and commitment,” Apell said. “These are the same values that define sport, banking, and strong partnerships.”

Kwame Ejalu, Managing Director of Afrisafe Uganda, celebrated the milestone.

“After 10 years of sponsoring the hole-in-one prize, it’s thrilling that the car has finally been claimed—and by a woman,” he said.

Match play, which pits competitors against each other hole by hole rather than by total score, adds layers of strategy and excitement to every swing.

Sserwano Walusimbi, Captain of Entebbe Golf Club, described the qualifier as high-energy and action-packed.

“This is just the beginning. As the series progresses from round one to the final, only the very best will advance,” he said, revealing that the overall winner will attend the DP World Tour in Dubai, the runner-up will travel to Zanzibar, and another top performer will visit Mombasa. Additional prizes are supported by Stanbic Bank, Uganda Airlines, CFAO Mobility, and Afrisafe.

“Congratulations to Berna for making history and inspiring the next generation of golfers,” Walusimbi added.
