President Yoweri Museveni has congratulated Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania and leader of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party, on her re-election as President of Tanzania.

According to the country’s electoral commission, President Samia secured 98% of the vote, nearly sweeping the 32 million ballots cast in Wednesday’s election.
“I hereby announce Samia Suluhu Hassan as the winner of the presidential election under the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party,” said electoral chief Jacobs Mwambegele while announcing the results on Saturday morning.

“This victory reflects the confidence that the people of Tanzania have in her leadership and vision,” President Museveni said in his congratulatory message.

He added that Uganda and Tanzania share historic bonds of friendship and cooperation, noting, “I look forward to working with President Samia to further strengthen our partnership in trade, infrastructure, and regional integration for the peace and prosperity of our peoples.”

In Zanzibar, Tanzania’s semi-autonomous archipelago, CCM’s Hussein Mwinyi—the incumbent—was also declared the winner, securing nearly 80% of the vote.
