President Yoweri Museveni has stated that he will not line behind any candidate in the upcoming National Resistance Movement (NRM) elections for the Local Council I (LCI) chairperson flag-bearer.

In a message to NRM members ahead of the intra-party elections and the verification of the national voters’ register, Museveni called on members to actively participate in the process.

“I am alerting and requesting all NRM members to go to the village centres in their respective local areas by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, to take part in the baraza that will verify the NRM members registered in the party’s registers and participate in the election of the NRM LCI flag-bearer, as well as elect village NRM structures,” he said.

The President emphasized that the two activities—register verification and election of LCI flag-bearers and village structures—should be concluded within four hours.

He also revealed that he will personally be in Rwakitura village, while the First Lady, Janet Kataha Museveni, will be in Irenga, Ntungamo, to take part in the verification of NRM village registers.

“I will, however, not line behind any candidate for election because, as chairman of the NRM, I welcome any choice made by our members. I cannot and should not, therefore, take sides,” Museveni said.
