President He further requested Dr. Byabashaija to notify him once the process of releasing the pardoned prisoners has been completed.has pardoned several prisoners across the country, Daily Star has learned.
“In accordance with Article 121 (4)(a) of the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, and on the recommendation of the Prerogative of Mercy Committee, His Excellency the President has granted pardon to a total of 143 petty convicts,” Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka said in a communication to the Commissioner General of Prisons, Dr. Johnson Byabashaija.
“This is therefore to forward to you the instrument of pardon, duly signed by President Yoweri Museveni, for appropriate action,” Kiwanuka added.
He further requested Dr. Byabashaija to notify him once the process of releasing the pardoned prisoners has been completed.
