President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has issued a strong warning to the newly elected National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders, including Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Annet Anita Among, urging them to steer clear of corruption and other forms of misconduct, warning that such behavior will provoke public anger.

The newly elected NRM leaders include Party Chairman Yoweri Kaguta Museveni; First Vice Chairman Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo; Second Vice Chairperson (Female) Rt. Hon. Annet Anita Among; Vice Chairperson for Eastern, Calvin Echodu; Central, Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune; Kampala, Salim Uhuru Nsubuga; Western, Jornard Asiimwe Akiiki; Northern, Denis Hamson Obua; and Karamoja, Lokii John Baptist.

Other elected leaders are Col. (Rtd) Tom Butiime for the Historical League; Arinaitwe Rwakajara for the Workers League; Mwanje Shafik for the PWDs League; Businge Penina Kabingani for the Elders League; Lt. (Rtd) Mushabe Moses for the Veterans League; and Adrine Kobusinge for the Women’s League.

Museveni’s Message: “Don’t Annoy Ugandans”

Speaking during the closing ceremony of the NRM National Delegates Conference at Kololo Independence Grounds on Wednesday, President Museveni warned the new leaders against betraying the trust of the party’s base.

“This group of NRM members makes up more than 80% of Uganda’s voters. Don’t anger them with wrongdoing,” he said. “Don’t frustrate our members with injustice and corruption. If you do, you’re not just annoying them—you’re annoying us.”

The president expressed confidence in the direction the party is headed under the new leadership but emphasized zero tolerance for corruption and impunity.

“The 20 million NRM members demand justice, fairness, and truth. They reject lies, corruption, and favoritism. That’s why you hear the youth protesting over the recent youth elections,” Museveni stated. “Nobody should contaminate our party with vices like vote-buying and corruption—they must be condemned.”

He revealed that reports of corruption had already surfaced during the conference and assured delegates that action was being taken, with some suspects already apprehended.

Wealth Creation as a Priority

President Museveni also called on NRM leaders to focus on wealth creation and help Ugandans actively participate in the money economy.

“Emphasize wealth creation among our people. Remind them that you don’t sleep on tarmac roads, in hospitals, or in schools at night. That’s why we stress the importance of wealth—it’s what belongs to you, your family, or your business,” he said.

Highlighting the irony of poverty amidst infrastructure, Museveni pointed to ghetto dwellers in Kampala who still struggle economically despite access to roads, water, and electricity.

“Every home must generate wealth. Government is channeling funds through the Parish Development Model (PDM). We are currently sending Shs100 million per parish, which will increase to Shs500 million. If implemented well, we can even increase it to Shs200 million per parish to transform lives,” he added.

He urged the leaders to ensure that every household in their constituencies is engaged in income-generating activities.

“Make sure every home is involved, one by one. If some are not, they will gradually catch up.”
