In a surprising twist during the ongoing NRM structure elections, Caroline Angolere, the Presidential Assistant for Poverty Alleviation and regional campaign manager for Team Calvin in Karamoja, suffered a humiliating defeat.
Angolere managed to garner only three votes, losing by a landslide to Madam Teddy Itiang—a barefoot, poverty-stricken Kjong woman—who secured 196 votes.
The two were contesting for the position of NRM Women’s League Chairperson at the sub-county level.
Teddy Itiang, who hails from Looreng Village, Rupa Parish in Rupa Sub-county, attributed her victory to the unwavering support of her community.
“Despite the intimidation from my opponent, I had the full backing of the voters,” said Teddy. “Angolere was even lucky to get those three votes. She was throwing money around on the eve of the election, but the people have spoken loud and clear.”
Teddy also raised concerns about Angolere’s conduct during the election.
“I doubt she even resigned from her official post before participating in the NRM party structures elections. Our top leaders should look into such matters if we are to have free and fair elections,” she added.
