Police in Kampala have detained a school director and a matron as investigations intensify into the death of a 14-year-old pupil who was discovered hanging inside a dormitory in Wakiso District.
The deceased, John Terry Kisekka, a Primary Five pupil at Kololo Junior School, was reportedly found by fellow pupils shortly after they returned from evening prep.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said preliminary reports indicate that the incident occurred at about 8:00pm.
“As pupils returned to the dormitory from evening prep, they found Terry hanging inside. They immediately alerted the matron, who informed the school director. Police were later notified and responded to the scene,” Kawala stated.
Responding officers found the body suspended with a red scarf tied to a roofing pole inside one of the dormitories.
The body has since been taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination as authorities work to establish the exact cause and circumstances of the death.
Police confirmed that the school director and the matron are in custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
Kawala called on schools and families to pay close attention to children’s mental and emotional well-being.
“We urge parents, guardians, and school authorities to take signs of distress among children seriously and to seek professional support or report concerns to police in time,” she said.
