NIC General Insurance has announced a landmark sponsorship worth USD 2 million (about Shs 7.28 billion) to support the She Cranes as Uganda’s national netball team steps up preparations for the Celtic Netball Cup, scheduled for 26–30 November 2025 at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland.

The announcement was made in Kampala by NIC General Insurance Managing Director Edu Elias, who said the sponsorship reflects the company’s continued commitment to promoting sports excellence and strengthening Uganda’s presence on the global stage. The package will cater for the entire team, including players and technical staff.

Elias noted that NIC’s backing is not merely financial but part of a broader effort to spur national development.

“Our partnership with the She Cranes is more than a sports investment—it is an investment in Uganda’s youth, talent, and international competitiveness. We are honored to support the team as they prepare to fly our flag in Scotland,” he said.

The sponsorship covers welfare, travel, insurance, and high-performance preparation, ensuring the delegation is fully equipped for the championship. NIC reaffirmed that promoting women in sport remains a central pillar of its corporate social responsibility, especially as the She Cranes continue to rise as one of the world’s emerging netball powerhouses.

Officials from the Uganda Netball Federation welcomed the package, describing it as both timely and transformative.

“This support from NIC General Insurance could not have come at a better time. It boosts player morale and significantly strengthens our preparations for a competition of this scale,” said Secretary General Aminah Mande.

With the final squad already named, the She Cranes are expected to depart for Scotland shortly. Team captain Racheal Nanyonga said the insurance component of the sponsorship provides crucial reassurance during a high-stakes tournament.

“We are ready to represent Uganda with pride. If any player falls ill or is injured, this support ensures we can access quality medical care—especially since healthcare abroad is extremely expensive. With many officials and players traveling, this package gives us great confidence and peace of mind,” she said.

The Celtic Netball Cup will pit Uganda against top-ranked global teams in what has become a key platform for nations seeking to elevate their competitive edge. For the She Cranes, NIC General Insurance’s backing comes at a pivotal moment as they seek both global visibility and consistent high-level performance.

NIC General Insurance reaffirmed its long-term commitment to supporting sports development, youth empowerment, and community transformation, positioning the sponsorship as part of its broader national impact strategy.
