In a significant step toward improving service delivery, the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has acquired four high-tech card printing machines, each capable of producing up to 3,000 national IDs per hour. These machines are expected to enhance efficiency and significantly reduce the turnaround time for national ID processing.

This latest acquisition aligns with NIRA’s preparations for the upcoming National ID mass enrollment and renewal exercise, which will be conducted at the parish level.

A previous delivery of over 5,000 registration kits has been instrumental in training client-facing staff, including Registration Assistants and Officers. The training process has been comprehensive, ensuring that staff are well-equipped for the mass registration exercise. To maintain a high standard of service, trainees underwent exit tests to assess their readiness—a measure that will inform deployment strategies for optimal service delivery.

With these technological advancements, NIRA is set to streamline the national ID registration and issuance process, reinforcing its commitment to providing timely and reliable identification services to all Ugandans. The momentum toward the launch of the exercise signals significant progress, dispelling any doubts about its feasibility.
