The NRM fraternity has noted with deep concern the misleading and sensational headline published by the Daily Monitor, alleging that the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, referred to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as “God.”

“We categorically reject this distortion as a blatant misrepresentation of her remarks and a deliberate attempt to provoke public misunderstanding and mischaracterize her deep appreciation for the President’s leadership.” the party said.

In her address, the Speaker expressed profound gratitude and admiration for President Museveni’s historic contribution to peace, stability, and socio-economic transformation in Uganda.

These sentiments are widely shared by millions of Ugandans who have benefited directly from the NRM government’s revolutionary progress. At no point did she equate the Head of State with the divine or make any theological declaration.

As a leader committed to constitutionalism, Hon. Anita Among fully respects the distinction between spiritual belief and political leadership. Her remarks, taken in proper context, were clearly figurative—intended to underscore the President’s unparalleled legacy and service to the nation.

“We caution media houses against irresponsible journalism that fuels misinformation and undermines public trust. While we uphold and respect press freedom, it must be exercised with integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to truth. Uganda’s political discourse must remain anchored in accuracy, civility, and the national interes,” the party said.

“We therefore urge the Daily Monitor to issue a correction and desist from sensationalism that distorts facts, sows division, and distracts from the pressing issues facing our people,” the party said.
