Uganda’s rally scene has found new heroes. Oscar Ntambi and co-driver Uthman Mohammad delivered a stunning statement on the global stage, clinching victory in the ARC2 category at the grueling Safari Rally Kenya on their World Rally Championship debut.

In a rally famed for breaking even the most seasoned crews, the Ugandan duo defied expectations—outdriving Kenya’s Evans Nzioka and mastering one of motorsport’s most unforgiving terrains. Their triumph signals a bold new chapter for Uganda’s presence in international rallying.

Behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X under the Forest Rally Team, Ntambi combined precision with patience, skillfully navigating Naivasha’s punishing landscape. From deep ruts and jagged volcanic rock to choking dust and erratic weather, the Safari Rally once again lived up to its brutal reputation.

Yet, even mechanical setbacks couldn’t derail their charge.

“Safari Rally pushes everything to the limit—both car and driver,” Ntambi said after the finish. “We had a few mechanical issues, but our focus was to stay composed, manage the car, and finish strong. This result means everything to us.”

Spanning over 350 kilometres of competitive stages, the rally featured iconic sections like Camp Moran, Kedong, Sleeping Warrior, and Hell’s Gate—where survival often outweighs outright speed. Ntambi’s disciplined approach proved decisive, particularly after an overheating scare briefly halted their progress.

Their victory not only marks a personal breakthrough but also elevates Uganda’s standing in regional motorsport, as several Ugandan crews made their presence felt in the Kenyan classic.

Backed by KCB Bank Uganda, Ntambi’s campaign has benefited from growing corporate investment in sports development—an effort the bank says is beginning to yield tangible results.

“It takes resilience and determination to compete at this level and succeed on debut,” said Noela Byuma, Head of Marketing and Communications at KCB Bank Uganda. “Oscar’s achievement is a proud moment for the country and a clear sign of what sustained support for sports can deliver.”

For Ntambi and Mohammad, the Safari Rally victory is more than just a win—it’s a launchpad.

“Finishing the Safari Rally was always a dream,” Ntambi reflected. “Winning on our first attempt makes it even more special and motivates us to aim higher.”
