The officer in charge of Ntawo Police Post has been shot dead during a confrontation with suspected armed robbers, Daily Star has learned.
According to a police statement, the incident occurred on the night of November 23, 2025, at around 10:25 PM in Ntawo Cell, Mukono Central Division, Mukono Municipality.
The fallen officer, ASP Bagenda Emmanuel, was responding to a reported armed robbery in Kiwala Village. He and a police constable pursued a suspicious motorcycle believed to be linked to the robbery.
“When they attempted to stop the motorcycle, the occupants opened fire, fatally wounding ASP Bagenda Emmanuel. The police constable was also injured but survived and was transferred to the hospital,” the statement reads.
The assailants fled after the shooting and made off with an AK-47 rifle that had been in possession of the officers.
Police say investigations are ongoing, and a manhunt has been launched to track down the suspects and recover the stolen weapon.
