The National Unity Platform (NUP) Vice President for Western Uganda, Jolly Jacklyn Tukamushaba, has been granted bail after spending two weeks in prison.

Tukamushaba was detained on January 14, ahead of the presidential elections held on January 15, 2026. Her whereabouts remained unknown until she was presented in court on February 6, 2026.

Tukamushaba, who contested for the Rukiga District Woman MP seat on the NUP ticket, was granted cash bail of Shs 1 million by the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kabale on Thursday.

According to the charge sheet, Tukamushaba, a resident of Kigara ‘A’ Village, Kigara Parish, Kamwezi Sub-county in Rukiga District, and Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru are facing charges of incitement to violence.

The prosecution alleges that in December 2025 and January 2026, at various locations in Western Uganda — including Rukiga, Kabale, and Rukungiri — Tukamushaba incited people to commit acts of violence, specifically targeting supporters of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) because of their political affiliation.

Tukamushaba leaves behind several NUP leaders who are also facing criminal charges, including the party’s Deputy President for Northern Uganda, Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru, who was arrested from her home on January 15, 2026, and charged in the Gulu Magistrates Court, as well as Butambala County Member of Parliament Muwanga Kivumbi, who serves as the NUP Vice President for the Central Region.

Kivumbi was previously arrested, charged, and remanded over allegations of terrorism.

The alleged incidents, including attacks on a police station and a polling centre, reportedly left seven people dead. Tukamushaba and Kivumbi are among more than 500 NUP supporters who have been charged with offenses, including incitement to violence.
