As Uganda prepares to produce its first oil this year, a tragic workplace accident has occurred at the Central Processing Facility (CPF) in Kasinyi Village, Ngwedo Sub County, Buliisa District. Maxwell Atuganyira, 30, an employee of Steadfast Crane Services—a subcontractor under Essar Crane Services Company—was fatally injured on Tuesday afternoon when a steel structure fell from a trailer.
The accident was confirmed by Jai Prakash Gupta, an instruction engineer at Essar Crane Services Company, who stated that operations at the facility have been temporarily halted to allow for investigations.
Atuganyira, a resident of Kigoya Village in Buliisa Sub County, succumbed to his injuries shortly after being admitted to a clinic within the construction site.
His father, William Muhinga, has urged the company to provide financial support to the deceased’s family, emphasizing that Atuganyira was the primary provider for his children’s education and his siblings’ welfare. Muhinga is also calling on the company to cover burial expenses and assist Atuganyira’s dependents, expressing concerns over the uncertainty now facing his grandchildren.
Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed that authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
At the time of reporting, Atuganyira’s body remained at the scene as investigations continued.
