A total of 10,492 defilement cases were reported to police in 2025, down from 12,312 cases in 2024, a 14.8% decrease, according to the 2025 Annual Crime Report.

Of the 2025 cases, 7,019 were classified as simple defilement, while 3,473 were aggravated cases.

The report highlights alarming details about the perpetrators: 191 children were defiled by suspects known to be HIV positive, 94 by teachers, and 65 by their own guardians.

In terms of legal outcomes, 4,886 cases were taken to court. Of these, 713 resulted in convictions, 27 in acquittals, and 355 were dismissed. Meanwhile, 3,791 cases remain pending in court, 1,932 were not proceeded with, and 3,674 are still under inquiry.

Police also report that 4,999 suspects were arrested and charged to court in 2025. Among them, 740 were convicted, 27 acquitted, 332 discharged, while 3,900 are still undergoing trial.

The report shows both progress and ongoing challenges in addressing defilement, highlighting the need for swift justice and strengthened child protection measures.
