At least 500 exhibitors are scheduled to participate in the forthcoming National Science Week 2025, the Daily Star has learned. The announcement was made by Dr. Monica Musenero, Minister for Science, Technology, and Innovation.

Held under the theme “Made in Uganda: From Innovation to Market,” the event will provide a platform for exhibitors to showcase their innovations and offer the public an opportunity to purchase a wide range of locally developed products. These innovations stem from initiatives supported by various bureaus established under the secretariat.

The week-long exhibition will take place from Sunday, 15th June to Friday, 20th June at Kololo Independence Grounds. Entry will be free to the public.

Speaking at the Deep Tech Centre in Namanve, Dr. Musenero highlighted Uganda’s progress in leveraging science and innovation for economic transformation.

“We have transitioned from piloting ideas to building industries,” she said. “We’ve seen the first clinical trials of locally developed therapeutics and expanded our electric vehicle ecosystem, which now includes over 5,000 electric motorcycles and 27 buses—each with up to 40% local content. We’ve also set up more than 140 battery swapping stations and over 30 DC fast chargers across the country.”

Dr. Musenero also noted the revitalization of key manufacturing plants such as Sukulu Phosphates, the launch of Deep Tech and Climate Tech summits, and the operationalization of vaccine manufacturing lines for both animals and humans.

Throughout the six-day event, attendees will be able to engage directly with innovators, explore government-backed initiatives, and learn about investment opportunities available to both local and international stakeholders.

She extended her gratitude to the Government of Uganda for its unwavering support of the secretariat’s work and its commitment to using science, technology, and innovation as a strategic tool to position Uganda as a leader in Deep Tech Innovation in Africa.

The Deep Tech Centre, which was inaugurated four months ago, is a government-owned facility designed to accelerate high-impact research and development, drive product commercialization, nurture a skilled talent pipeline, support emerging ventures, and enhance Uganda’s global competitiveness in science and innovation.
