Pearl Bank Supports IUIU with Water Tanks and Food Items in Recognition of Ramadan and Women’s Month
Pearl Bank has extended support to Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) with a donation of water tanks and assorted food items in recognition of the ongoing Ramadan and the global celebration of women during Women’s Month.
March is globally recognized as Women’s Month, with 8 March commemorated as International Women’s Day to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women in society. This year, the month also coincides with the holy month of Ramadan, a sacred period of fasting, reflection, prayer, and charity for Muslims worldwide, which will culminate in the celebration of Eid al-Fitr on 20 March 2026.
In recognition of these two significant occasions, Pearl Bank, through its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) education pillar, extended support to the Daawa Liaison Community Outreach program at the Islamic University in Uganda. The donation included two 10,000-liter water tanks and assorted food items, specifically benefiting students residing in the IUIU Summayyah and Abu-Mayanja hostels.
Speaking during the handover, Pearl Bank Mbale Branch Manager, Arafat Zaake, noted that Ramadan represents a period of spiritual renewal and communal solidarity for Muslims around the world.
“Ramadan is a time for fasting, reflection, and community support. As a bank committed to fostering prosperity for Ugandans, we are pleased to partner with the IUIU community by providing food items that will help students break their fast and prepare for the joyous celebration of Eid al-Fitr,” Zaake said.
He added that the donation of water tanks was also in recognition of the role women play in families and communities, particularly in ensuring access to essential resources.
“Women are central to the wellbeing of families and communities. By supporting sustainable access to clean water, we are helping create an environment where women and young people can thrive and focus on their education and personal development,” he explained.
Zaake further commended Muslim students observing the fast, noting that Ramadan symbolizes dedication, sacrifice, and spiritual growth.
“As a bank that places communities at the heart of its operations, we believe in supporting meaningful initiatives that uplift people’s lives. Through this donation, we hope students can experience the joy of Eid while also benefiting from improved access to clean water,” he added.
The Rector of the Islamic University in Uganda, Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, expressed appreciation to Pearl Bank for the timely support.
“We are grateful to Pearl Bank for this generous contribution. The donation comes at a time when it is greatly needed. Our students will benefit not only from the food items during the Eid celebrations but also from the water tanks, which will significantly improve access to water at the hostels,” he said.
As a socially responsible institution, Pearl Bank continues to implement various Corporate Social Investment initiatives guided by its Scale, Impact, and Sustainability (SIS) agenda. These initiatives focus on key areas including Humanitarian Support, Education and Sports, Social Enterprise, Environmental Sustainability, and Financial Literacy.
