At least 21 suspects, including two women, have been arrested in connection with a string of robberies and assaults that occurred on Saturday in the area surrounding the National Theatre and UBC roundabout.

The suspects, reportedly disguised in yellow T-shirts, targeted motorists, pedestrians, and individuals heading to Kyadondo to witness the nomination of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

According to Patrick Onyango, spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, the suspects were tracked and intercepted using CCTV surveillance footage from key locations across the city.

“The arrested individuals are currently detained at cand Wandegeya Police Station. Victims have already recorded statements, and we are preparing the case file for court,” Onyango said.

He confirmed that police are investigating multiple cases of simple robbery and assault, and that further CCTV footage is under review to identify additional culprits. One suspect sustained injuries while attempting to escape arrest and is currently receiving medical attention.

Onyango also urged members of the public who may have been affected but have not yet come forward to report to the nearest police station.
