Police is investigating the sudden death of Dr. John Spire Kiggundu, the renowned founder and director of Henrob Hospital in Zzana, and a trailblazer in laparoscopic surgery in Uganda.

The investigation was confirmed by Police spokesperson Kituma Rusoke who said an in-depth inquiry is underway and that a postmortem examination would be conducted to establish the exact cause and manner of death.

Dr. Kiggundu, who also served as President of the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Uganda (ALSU), was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances on Sunday after he was reported missing. As of press time, the cause of death had not been officially released.

Until his untimely death, Dr. Kiggundu served as a consultant gynecologist at Henrob Hospital and was widely recognized for his relentless efforts to champion laparoscopic—or “keyhole”—surgery in both public and private health facilities.

His advocacy brought modern, safer, and more affordable surgical options to women across the country, including in underserved rural areas.
