The Uganda Police Force has increased the cash reward to Shs 60 million for credible information leading to the arrest of suspects involved in the brutal murder of an elderly couple in Entebbe in July.
Speaking to the media, ACP Kituuma Rusoke, one of the lead spokespersons for the investigation, said the initial Shs 50 million reward has now been increased as a show of the police’s commitment to apprehending the perpetrators.
“We initially offered a reward of 50 million shillings for information leading to the arrest of the suspect, whose photo and voice we have shared. This reward has now been increased to 60 million shillings,” Rusoke stated.
He clarified that while some individuals have been identified as persons of interest, their identities will only be revealed once conclusive evidence is gathered.
“For clarification, we highlighted individuals whom our investigative sources suspect may be connected to the crime. Once conclusive evidence is established against any suspect, we will formally release their details to the public,” he emphasized.
The victims, David Mutaaga (69) and his wife Deborah Florence Mutaaga (62), were discovered dead in their home in Entebbe on the morning of July 6, both with fatal stab wounds, according to preliminary investigations.
The couple had reportedly just returned from abroad and were settling back into their residence when the attack occurred.
The incident came to light after a domestic worker, who found the bodies, alerted the authorities. Officers from Entebbe Division Police responded to the scene and confirmed the double homicide.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, described the case as a targeted and violent attack, likely linked to aggravated robbery.
“This was a violent and targeted attack. The couple had only recently returned from abroad. It’s a devastating loss,” Owoyesigyire said.
He confirmed that forensic teams had completed a thorough crime scene examination and collected key evidence.
“We condemn this heinous act in the strongest terms. Our investigation teams are working tirelessly to identify and bring those responsible to justice.”
ACP Rusoke also revealed that police have secured an audio recording of the suspect’s voice, which is now a critical piece of evidence. Authorities are urging the public to listen to the recording and report if they recognize the voice.
“We are calling on anyone who may recognize the suspect’s voice to come forward. This is crucial,” he said.
The police are appealing to the public—especially residents in and around Entebbe—to report any suspicious activity or individuals. Information can be shared anonymously via tip lines or through the nearest police station.
“We urge the public to cooperate with investigators. Even the smallest detail could be the missing link,” said Rusoke.
