President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Justice Jane Frances Abodo as the new Principal Judge.
The appointment was confirmed by Faruk Kirunda, Special Presidential Assistant in charge of Press and Mobilization at the Office of the President.
“I hereby confirm that the letter circulating on social media regarding the appointment of Justice Jane Frances Abodo as the new Principal Judge is authentic,” Kirunda stated.
He added that her name has been forwarded to Parliament for the necessary approval.
Justice Abodo’s appointment follows the elevation of Justice Dr. Flavian Zeija to the position of Deputy Chief Justice.
Prior to her new role, Abodo served as the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) since April 2, 2020. Before that, she served as a High Court Judge in the Criminal Division from February 2018 until April 2020.
Upon taking her oath of office, Justice Abodo pledged to build upon the achievements of her predecessors and to pursue key institutional reforms, including internal structural reorganization, improved staffing, and enhancing staff capacity through retooling and reskilling.
