A prison officer attached to Kiboga Prison has shot dead three supervisors, Daily Star has learned.
The revelation was made by Frank Baine Mayanja, the Commissioner for Cooperation and Corporate Affairs and Service Spokesperson of the Uganda Prisons Service.
“The Commissioner General of Prisons regrets to announce the unfortunate death of three persons following a shooting incident at Kiboga Prison,” he said.
The deceased have been identified as Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Hope Catherine (Deputy Officer in Charge), Principal Officer I Akishuri Bright (Third in Command), and Sarah Ayebare, spouse of the Officer in Charge.
According to Baine, the incident occurred at about 1000 hours when No. 13544 Warder Anguyo Moses opened fire on his supervisors, fatally shooting them. Following the incident, the suspect fled the facility.
Police were immediately called to the scene and secured the area. Joint security operations are currently underway to pursue the suspect.
He added that although the firearm used in the shooting has been recovered, the suspect remains at large and is considered dangerous. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to inform the Police.
