At least four people have died and 13 others were injured in a fatal road crash at Amungura Bridge along the Busia–Tororo Road, Daily Star has learned.

According to SP Kananura Michael, spokesperson for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, the crash involved a motor vehicle with registration number UA 889AM and a pedestrian.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver, who was reportedly speeding, struck and killed a pedestrian attempting to cross the road. The driver then lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, hit the bridge, and plunged into River Malaba below.

Three passengers died at the scene, while 13 others—including the driver—sustained injuries.

“The victims were rushed to Tororo Hospital for medical attention. The deceased have been taken to the hospital’s mortuary for postmortem examinations. The vehicle has been towed to Busia Police Station as investigations begin,” SP Kananura said.

He urged all motorists to strictly observe speed limits and give way to pedestrians, especially in busy areas, to help prevent such tragic incidents.
