Security forces from the police and army have raided the National Unity Platform (NUP) offices in Kavule during the distribution of expression of interest forms, Daily Star has learned.
The incident was revealed by Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, the President of NUP.
According to reports, the raid was allegedly triggered by the Katooke LC1 Chairman, following an altercation involving Kaweesa Stephen, an aspiring Member of Parliament for Nansana Municipality. Kaweesa had reportedly blocked Bwaise Road.
Police, led by the Officer in Charge of Wandegeya Police Station, allegedly asked Kaweesa to clear the road. When he refused, they resorted to using teargas and live ammunition to disperse his supporters.
Amid the chaos, Kaweesa’s driver reversed into the party headquarters. The police pursued them into the premises and arrested Kaweesa at the NUP offices.
Daily Star later learned that Kaweesa and three other individuals who had been detained were eventually released.
