Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has expressed her sorrow over the passing of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) John Cossy Odomel. According to IGP Abas Byakagaba, Odomel passed away last week in India.

Odomel, who served as IGP from 1992 to 1999, joined the Uganda Police Force in 1980 and steadily rose through the ranks to lead the institution. He will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Amusiat, Palisa District.

“This morning, I joined mourners to bid farewell to IGP Emeritus John Cossy Odomel. Uganda has lost a remarkable leader, an esteemed figure whose integrity, discipline, and dedication elevated the Uganda Police Force to a respected institution,” Among said.

She described Odomel as a true patriot who served with honor, leaving behind a legacy that should inspire generations.

“On behalf of Parliament and myself, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, the police community, friends, and loved ones,” she said.
