The Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Joel Ssenyonyi in Parliament has accused five Members of Parliament of impersonating him in order to attend a conference in Kenya.
The MPs in question are Joyce Bagala, Kakembo Mbwatekamwa, Juliet Kakande, Lumu Richard, and Najjuma Sarah.
According to LoP Joel Ssenyonyi, the legislators allegedly obtained an invitation letter in his name from an organization in Kenya, enabling them to attend a two-week workshop scheduled to take place in Mombasa next month.
“One MP even went so far as to manually add his name to the invitation letter after it had been received,” Ssenyonyi said. “They then submitted it to the Speaker, requesting clearance and facilitation for the trip.”
Ssenyonyi emphasized that the MPs neither informed nor consulted him about using his name to secure the invitation, effectively impersonating him. He further expressed concern over the inclusion of an NRM MP, Najjuma Sarah (Nakaseke Woman MP), on what was presented as an “Opposition delegation” supposedly led by him.
“I was completely unaware of this planned trip or the entire scheme until I happened to come across the letter,” he added.
