What began as a routine Sunday evening at Seeta High School’s Mbalala Campus ended in tragedy and unanswered questions  after a Senior Six student drowned under unclear circumstances in the school’s swimming pool.

Kevin Nsamba, 21, was last seen around 5:30 PM, moments after playing football with fellow students. What happened next has left both his peers and investigators puzzled. According to early reports, Nsamba and a group of students made their way to the pool, where he allegedly jumped into the deep end  and never resurfaced.

“There were trainees in the pool under the supervision of a lifeguard at the time. Nsamba reportedly jumped into the deep end and vanished,” said Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Police Spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Area.

What’s raising eyebrows is how long it took before anyone realized something was wrong.

It wasn’t until later that evening  after a movie session  that Nsamba’s absence became apparent. Concerned students informed the dormitory captain, who then involved the chief warden and eventually the school principal. The incident wasn’t reported to police until midday Monday.

A case of suspected drowning was filed at Mbalala Police Station and quickly transferred to Mukono Central Police Station for deeper investigation. Police dispatched a team of crime scene experts, rescue personnel, and forensic investigators. The body was eventually recovered and taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

“The swimming pool trainer has been arrested to assist with investigations,” Owoyesigyire confirmed. Preliminary evidence also points to the presence of a pool attendant at the time of the incident, but their exact role remains under review. CCTV footage is now being examined frame by frame for clues.

As detectives await postmortem results and review the chain of events, one thing remains clear: more questions than answers still surround Kevin Nsamba’s final moments.

The school has yet to release an official statement. For now, students, parents, and the wider community remain on edge  hoping for clarity, and justice.

In February, a 16-year-old Senior Three student, Ssesazi Elishammah was reportedly found hanging in in the dormitory.

“At this stage, the motive behind the suspected suicide remains unknown. Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident,”  Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.

Reports suggest that Ssesazi had attended evening classes the night before until 10:00 PM before retiring to the dormitory with his classmates. However, at around 3:00 AM, a roommate discovered him hanging near his bed and immediately notified the school administration, which then alerted the police.

In May Panic engulfed Seeta High School following the murder of one of its teachers, Oloya Ivan. Oloya was killed in Bajjo Cell, Nyenje Ward, Goma Division.

According to Patrick Onyango, the spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, five suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of 30-year-old Oloya Ivan, a teacher at Seeta High School, Mbalala Campus.
