The Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries, Frank Tumwebaze, has commended Inspire Africa Group for its significant strides in coffee value addition in Uganda.
Tumwebaze made the remarks during a visit to the Africa Coffee Park in Ntungamo District, conducted as part of his oversight role in the coffee sector. The park is being developed by Inspire Africa Group under the leadership of its CEO, Nelson Tugume.
During the visit, the minister toured all sections of the expansive facility, including the wet mill, dry mill, roastery, spray dry and freeze dry plants, as well as sections dedicated to coffee-based cosmetics and brewed coffee products.
“I want to thank Tugume and his team for the vision and resilience they have exhibited throughout this project. The project speaks for itself—a lot of impressive work has been done,” Minister Tumwebaze stated.
He further expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for supporting Tugume’s vision to end the loss of Ugandan jobs and resources through the continued export of raw coffee.
CEO Nelson Tugume noted that the factory had already begun mass production of roasted coffee, ground coffee, coffee capsules, and drip coffee. He also revealed that the first consignment to Somalia was flagged off last week.
“Minister, the only thing delaying us now is the dedicated electricity line to the factory. The work to directly connect the facility to the Mirama Hills line is ongoing. Once complete, we will immediately begin the production of instant coffee,” Tugume said.
The Africa Coffee Park, located on 150 acres in Ntungamo, is poised to become Eastern Africa’s largest coffee processing and value-addition centre. The park employs advanced freeze-dry technology to produce refined instant coffee, as well as coffee beauty products and energy drinks.
The project is aligned with Uganda’s Fourth National Development Plan (NDP IV 2025/2026–2029/2030), which identifies coffee as one of six priority agricultural value chains for investment in value addition.
