Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to supply Ugandan diplomatic missions abroad with iconic local products, including Uganda Waragi.
This initiative aligns with the government’s agenda for national socio-economic transformation by promoting export trade and supporting local production through the “Buy Uganda, Build Uganda” (BUBU) policy.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, UBL Managing Director Andrew Kilonzo welcomed the partnership, describing it as a strong commitment by the public sector to collaborate with private industry in promoting Ugandan manufacturing both locally and internationally.
“This is a great opportunity for us as a brewery to showcase our rich, authentic Ugandan brands on a global stage. It brings significant monetary value to both Uganda Breweries and the Government of Uganda,” said Kilonzo. “The partnership will also promote trade, enhance the manufacturing sector, and contribute to the growth of Uganda’s hospitality and tourism industries.”
Under the agreement, Uganda Breweries will provide selected products quarterly for stakeholder and diplomatic events and will have opportunities to brand and exhibit their products at official functions hosted by Ugandan Missions and the Ministry Headquarters.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bagiire Vincent Waiswa, emphasized the importance of the initiative under the Ministry’s Economic and Commercial Diplomacy program, which aims to facilitate bilateral trade and create markets for Ugandan products abroad.
“This is a significant step in ensuring that Ugandan products are showcased to guests at our events. We hope this exposure will generate interest and stimulate further export opportunities,” Mr. Bagiire said. “The Government’s 10-fold growth strategy prioritizes Agro-industrialization, Tourism Promotion, Mineral Development, and Science and Technology transfer (ATMS). This partnership supports our export-led growth strategy within that framework.”
Through this MoU, the Ministry pledges to provide UBL products for sampling to key stakeholders and potential business partners interested in export opportunities. Additionally, it will share information with prospective investors on import and export prospects for UBL products.
