Uganda’s industrial sector continues to expand, with manufacturing growing by 7.9% and agriculture’s gross value-added increasing by 4.4% in Q3 of 2023/24, according to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics. As the country prioritizes value addition, particularly in agriculture, Uganda Baati remains instrumental in strengthening industrial infrastructure.
At the recent launch of Inspire Africa’s Coffee Park—an innovative agro-processing center set to transform Uganda’s coffee value chain—Uganda Baati played a key role by providing all pre-engineered structures, known as SAFBUILD.
“SAFBUILD is a world-class pre-engineered steel building solution designed to offer businesses durable, efficient, and cost-effective structures. Our buildings, produced from a combination of cold-formed and hot-rolled steel at our state-of-the-art facility, adhere to the highest quality standards. They are easy to assemble on-site, using bolted connections that eliminate the need for on-site welding, reducing construction costs and project timelines,” explains Apoorva Hemantha, Head of Safal Building Systems at Uganda Baati.
“By leveraging optimized high-tensile galvanized CR-steel alongside HR-steel, we ensure maximum strength and durability,” he adds. “SAFBUILD is the ideal solution for a wide range of industrial applications, including warehouses, factory sheds, parking structures, market spaces, agro-processing buildings, institutional facilities, workshops, and places of worship.”
Ian Rumanyika, Head of External and Corporate Affairs at Uganda Baati, highlights the company’s commitment to accelerating industrialization. “Through innovative building solutions, we support key economic sectors like agro-processing. Our contribution to Inspire Africa Coffee Park is just one example of how Uganda Baati is driving Uganda’s vision for value addition and economic transformation.”
As a cornerstone of Uganda’s economy, the coffee industry stands to benefit immensely from the Africa Coffee Park, a significant step in adding value to the country’s coffee exports. By supplying SAFBUILD structures for this project, Uganda Baati is directly enabling modern processing facilities that will enhance production capacity, create jobs, and boost economic growth.
Nelson Tugume, CEO of Inspire Africa Group, calls the Africa Coffee Park a game-changer for Uganda’s coffee industry. “By adding value at the source, we are increasing export earnings, creating jobs, and empowering local farmers. Uganda Baati’s SAFBUILD structures have allowed us to establish world-class facilities efficiently and cost-effectively. This partnership demonstrates the impact of industry leaders collaborating to drive economic transformation.”
Beyond SAFBUILD, Uganda Baati, through its subsidiary SAFAL Building Systems, offers a suite of industrial solutions, including: Safsolar, Sustainable solar energy solutions (PV solar tables and water heating); Ultraspan, A light-gauge steel roofing system that enhances construction efficiency and Safcool, A revolutionary cold-room solution for commercial and industrial cooling, ideal for preserving perishable goods like vegetables, dairy, meat, and fish.
Uganda Baati’s commitment to industrial growth extends well beyond Inspire Africa Coffee Park. The company has contributed to the construction of major landmarks across the country, including churches, factories, schools, higher institutions of learning, the new URA Towers, and hospitals. Each project underscores Uganda Baati’s dedication to delivering high-quality, durable building solutions that drive community development and national infrastructure advancement.
“As we continue to innovate and expand our offerings, Uganda Baati remains steadfast in our mission to empower industries and contribute to Uganda’s sustainable growth,” concludes Rumanyika.
