Uganda’s Vice President, Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, has arrived in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, to represent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU). The high-level summit will take place from February 13 to 15, 2026.

Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, the Vice President was warmly received by Ethiopia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Aleme Sime Feyisa; Uganda’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Rebecca Amuge; State Minister of Finance and Planning, Amos Lugolobi; and Brig. Gen. Fred Zakye Kateiza, the Defence Advisor at Uganda’s Mission in Addis Ababa, along with other dignitaries.

The 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union is being held under the theme: “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.”

The summit follows the 48th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council, which is currently underway in Addis Ababa. It will also feature the 35th Summit of the African Peer Review (APR) Forum of Heads of State and Government.

During the forum, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will be inaugurated as Chairperson of the APR Forum on February 13, 2026.

Additionally, the summit will include a meeting of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC), scheduled for February 14–15, 2026.

The gathering is expected to bring together African leaders to deliberate on key continental priorities, including peace and security, economic integration, climate action, and sustainable development.
