An engineer with the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) has tragically passed away following a drowning incident at Busowoko Falls, the Daily Star has learned. His death has been confirmed by UNOC.
Eng. Gershom Rwakasanga, who served as Manager of Terminals Development & Operations at the Jinja Storage Terminal, had been missing since October 11, 2025, after reportedly drowning in the River Nile.
“It is with deep sorrow that we inform the public that the body of our colleague, Eng. Rwakasanga, has been recovered from the River Nile following the tragic incident at Busowoko Falls,” UNOC said in a statement.
The company clarified that the incident occurred while he was off duty, spending time with his family, and not during any official work-related activity.
“We appreciate the public’s concern and continue to keep his loved ones in our prayers during this very difficult time. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Gershom’s family, friends, and all who worked closely with him,”
the statement added.
Eng. Rwakasanga is remembered as a dedicated professional whose contributions to Uganda’s oil and gas infrastructure were highly valued.
