The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) United Nations Guard Unit Eleven (UNGU XI) contingent commander, Lt Col Peter Ruyogoza Barigye, has praised his troops for their dedication and professionalism as they enter the third quarter of their mission deployment.
Addressing officers and militants, he commended their discipline and hard work but cautioned against complacency. He stressed that the security situation remained unpredictable despite outward calm. “Alshabab is planning, and we must stay vigilant,” he warned. “I must take you back home alive, and it is your duty to ensure your safety at all times.”
Lt Col Barigye underscored the need for heightened security consciousness and increased operational activity within the camp. “Don’t relax,” he urged. “We must achieve our mission as UNGU XI, given our mandate.”
Alongside operational readiness, the contingent also received training in financial literacy from Major CB Rutaremwa, AUSSOM Wazalendo Sacco branch manager. Lt Col Barigye encouraged troops to build knowledge in financial management and investment, noting its value for their future.
Major Jacob Gowan Kaburika, the Administration Officer, echoed the importance of financial prudence. “We earn daily and monthly, but spend daily,” he said. “It’s prudent we learn how to invest wisely and manage our investment projects to prosper.”
Major Rutaremwa’s session covered savings discipline, factors influencing savings and the benefits of building a savings culture. He explained that consistent saving fosters financial independence, better retirement planning, and long-term wealth creation.
