The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), in partnership with the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon, will this week welcome a group of international influencers from the UK, USA, and Dubai to participate in the highly anticipated Rwenzori Marathon, scheduled for August 23 in Kasese.
Among the notable guests is internationally renowned sports commentator Rob Walker, who will be participating in the marathon alongside his family. His involvement is part of UTB’s broader campaign to position Uganda as Africa’s premier adventure tourism destination under its “Explore Uganda” brand.
In addition to the marathon, the visiting influencers will take part in a curated post-event itinerary showcasing Uganda’s natural and cultural treasures. Highlights include gorilla trekking, visits to Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Parks, and immersive cultural experiences.
UTB Chief Executive Officer Juliana Kaggwa emphasized the strategic role these influencers will play in promoting Uganda on the global stage.
“The influencers represent audiences across multiple continents. Their real-time digital storytelling, international media features, and behind-the-scenes content will drive visibility for both the Rwenzori Marathon and Uganda’s adventure tourism,” said Kaggwa. “The marathon is more than just a race—it’s an invitation to experience the wonders of the Pearl of Africa.”
Adventure tourism is one of the fastest-growing segments in global travel, and Uganda—with its unique blend of mountain ranges, wildlife, water bodies, and rich cultural heritage—is well-positioned to lead in the region. Sporting events like the Rwenzori Marathon serve as key attractions for international visitors and offer a platform to diversify the country’s tourism appeal beyond its traditional wildlife safaris.
Speaking at Entebbe International Airport while receiving Rob Walker and his family, Rwenzori Marathon Team Lead Amos Wekesa highlighted the significance of Walker’s return.
“Rob Walker’s participation is monumental. It underscores the marathon’s growing reputation as a leading sports tourism event that showcases Uganda’s potential to a global audience,” said Wekesa.
The visiting influencer team includes: Rob Walker (UK), International sports commentator and adventure travel enthusiast; Sean Hammond (USA), Endurance athlete and digital creator; Nicholas Butter (UK), Record-setting runner and explorer and Angus Maxified (Dubai), Travel vlogger and adventure influencer.
These content creators will document their Ugandan journey across social media, blogs, and video platforms, offering their global audiences an authentic glimpse into the country’s adventure, culture, and hospitality.
Set against the dramatic backdrop of the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains, the marathon has rapidly become a flagship event on Uganda’s sports and tourism calendar, attracting elite athletes, casual runners, and adventure travelers from around the world.
