Five candidates have been officially declared Members of Parliament representing workers in Uganda’s 12th Parliament following elections held at Kibuli Secondary School in Kampala.

The declaration was made on Tuesday evening by the Returning Officer, Ibrahim Kakembo, who also issued declaration forms to the successful candidates.

Annet Birungi emerged the overall winner after securing 358 votes, narrowly ahead of Gilbert Agaba, who garnered 351 votes.

The other elected representatives are incumbent Arinaitwe Rwakajara with 289 votes, incumbent Margaret Namubiru Rwabushaija who received 207 votes, and Fiona Nakku, who was elected as the Female Representative of Workers after defeating the incumbent, Agnes Kunihira Abwooli.

The elections mark the conclusion of the process to select workers’ representatives to the 12th Parliament.
