President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Agnes Kainza Nzogi as the first-ever Permanent Secretary (PS) for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

Her appointment follows a request by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo, to establish the position of PS in the ODPP. The move aims to enhance representation in inter-ministerial forums, improve collaboration with other government entities and development partners, and strengthen administrative oversight within the institution.

Nzogi will be deployed by the Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet, Lucy Nakyobe. The DPP emphasized that the ODPP’s institutional structure requires a high-level administrator to manage administrative, managerial, and policy-related functions, allowing the DPP and technical staff to focus on prosecutorial matters.

As PS, Nzogi is expected to lead administrative functions, ensure effective resource allocation, oversee institutional policies, and maintain service delivery standards for efficient prosecutorial operations.

Nzogi began her public service career in November 2004 as an Assistant Secretary in Sironko District Local Government. In September 2009, she was promoted to Senior Assistant Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development.

She later rose through the ranks, serving as Principal Assistant Secretary in 2016 before being transferred to the ODPP in 2017. In August 2020, she was promoted to Under Secretary, a role she held until her current appointment as Permanent Secretary.

Nzogi holds an impressive academic record, including: Master of Public Administration – University of Birmingham, UK; Master of Arts in Development Studies – Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, Netherlands; Postgraduate Diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation – Uganda Management Institute; Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration – Islamic University in Uganda; Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences – Makerere University and Certificate in Law – Law Development Centre, Uganda.

Nzogi’s vast experience and academic background position her as a key figure in strengthening the ODPP’s administrative and operational efficiency.
