Police have arrested the prime suspect in connection with the murder of veteran Afrigo Band musician Moses Matovu.
The suspect has been identified as Vincent Nsamba, 41, who was arrested following investigations into the circumstances surrounding Matovu’s death.
Nsamba was apprehended in Ochange Ward, Yesu Amala, Nansana Division, Wakiso District, following a manhunt by police intelligence and task force teams.
Police had earlier arrested Rose Tumusiime, the woman who was reportedly in Matovu’s company shortly before the fatal incident. She is being held to assist detectives with investigations.
According to preliminary police findings, Matovu went to Tumusiime’s residence in Kibuli at about 5:30am on Thursday. As they were leaving the residence, they were allegedly confronted by a man who police said had previously been in a relationship with Tumusiime.
A physical altercation reportedly followed, during which Matovu sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to Kibuli Hospital by a boda boda rider but later died from his injuries.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala said investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice.
Matovu, a founding member of Afrigo Band, died aged 77 after a career spanning nearly six decades in Uganda’s music industry.
