Pearl Bank’s mobile wallet, Wendi, has launched a promotional campaign offering customers cash prizes, fuel vouchers, smartphones and household appliances in a bid to encourage more Ugandans to embrace digital financial services.
Dubbed Wendi Ku Win, the campaign rewards customers who make transactions worth more than Shs10,000 through the mobile wallet, with winners selected in weekly draws.
The campaign was launched on November 6 at the Old Taxi Park in Kampala in partnership with the Uganda Taxi Operators Federation (UTOF), targeting taxi operators, passengers and other users of digital financial services.
Customers stand a chance of winning fuel vouchers worth Shs30,000, Shs50,000 and Shs100,000, smartphones, household appliances such as microwaves and blenders, as well as cash prizes worth Shs100,000.
Andrew Kabeera, Pearl Bank’s executive director, said the campaign was designed not only to reward customers but also to encourage more people to use digital platforms for their everyday financial transactions.
He said the promotion would give existing and new customers an opportunity to explore the services offered by Wendi, including fuel payments, bill payments, money transfers, savings, merchant payments, government collections and Western Union transfers.
“We believe that during this campaign, both existing and new customers will be able to interact with the Wendi platform as they make fuel payments, pay bills, make money transfers, save, conduct merchant payments, government collections and Western Union services transfers. This is the right step towards ushering more Ugandans into the digital money economy,” Kabeera said.
The campaign comes at a time when Uganda’s digital financial services sector continues to expand, with more customers increasingly relying on mobile platforms to access financial services.
According to the Bank of Uganda’s July 2025 report, active mobile banking users increased by 16 per cent from 2.17 million in March 2024 to 2.5 million in March 2025.
The volume of transactions also rose by eight per cent, from 27.7 million in the year ending March 2024 to 29.9 million in the year ending March 2025.
Transaction values increased by 42.4 per cent, from Shs9.9 trillion to Shs14.2 trillion over the same period, reflecting growing reliance on digital financial platforms.
These figures highlight the growing opportunity for financial technology providers such as Wendi to extend financial services to communities with limited access to physical banking facilities.
The expansion of digital financial services also supports the National Financial Literacy Strategy 2023-2028, which seeks to promote economic growth and reduce poverty through access to affordable and quality financial services.
Beyond payments and money transfers, Wendi offers customers a savings facility that earns interest of 12.5 per cent per annum, allowing users to select savings plans based on their financial goals.
The platform also features a SACCO management system that enables savings groups to manage their contributions and monitor transactions digitally in real time.
Kabeera urged both existing and prospective customers to sign up for the service and participate in the promotional campaign.
“Wendi remains focused on delivering innovative solutions that help Ugandans achieve greater financial wellbeing. I encourage our customers and all those who are not on Wendi to either dial *229# using their feature phones or download the Wendi mobile wallet from Google Play or the App Store, start transacting and stand a chance of winning in the Wendi Ku Win campaign,” he said.
