At least two people have been reportedly died in the Sunrise Hotel inferno, Daily Star has learned.

According to Patrick Onyango, the deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, rescue teams remain at the scene, working to access all rooms and assess the extent of the damage. However, their efforts are being hindered by dense smoke, which is severely limiting visibility.

Despite these challenges, the team has managed to access some rooms, and the operation is ongoing. Unfortunately, the death toll has risen to two.

“The first victim has been identified as Akot Akol Arop Chan, a South Sudanese national. The body has been transported to the City Mortuary at Mulago for an autopsy,” Onyango said.

The second victim has yet to be identified. The rescue mission is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
