Justice Jane Okuo Kajuga has been appointed as the Acting Principal Judge of the Courts of Judicature. Her appointment was made by the , Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny–Dollo.
This appointment follows the elevation of Justice Dr. Flavian Zeija to the position of Deputy Chief Justice.
In her new role, Justice Kajuga will support the Chief Justice in the continued delivery of justice and in ensuring the efficient administration and management of the High Court and subordinate courts across the country, until a substantive Principal Judge is appointed.
Lady Justice Okuo Kajuga was appointed a Judge of the High Court in 2019 and has been serving at the Anti-Corruption Division, where she is currently the Deputy Head. She has presided over complex and high-profile corruption cases with diligence, commitment, and integrity.
In 2020, she was designated as the Focal Judge for the Plea Bargain initiative within the Judiciary. Since then, she has successfully coordinated and overseen its implementation nationwide. The Plea Bargain programme has significantly transformed the criminal justice system by promoting the expeditious, cost-effective, and participatory resolution of criminal matters.
Justice Kajuga is also a strong advocate for Alternative Dispute Resolution. She is a court-accredited mediator attached to the Family Division of the High Court.
Before her appointment to the Bench, she served in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for 20 years, rising through the ranks from State Attorney to Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions. She was in charge of International Cooperation, Extraditions, and Mutual Legal Assistance.
