All eligible Ugandans who applied for voter registration but whose details are missing from the National Voters Register have an opportunity to present their case for inclusion, Daily Star has learned.

Last month, the Electoral Commission commenced the display of the National Voters Register in preparation for the 2026 general elections. The Register is currently being displayed daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., including weekends, at all polling stations across Uganda.

Following this display period, a list of individuals recommended for deletion from the Register will also be displayed from May 16 to May 26, 2025, at each respective Parish or Ward Headquarters.

This supplementary display aims to give anyone wrongly recommended for deletion the chance to object to the Parish/Ward Tribunal.

“The Parish/Ward Tribunal shall consider and make final decisions on recommendations for inclusion, deletion, or correction made by the public,” said Justice Simon Byabakama.

According to the Electoral Commission, this exercise is critical, as it could determine whether or not one is eligible to vote on polling day. No new applications for voter registration or transfers to another polling station will be accepted during this period.

“Display officers will be physically stationed at each polling station throughout the entire display period to assist voters, especially those affected by the re-organisation of polling stations,” the Commission stated.

The Display Exercise is being conducted with strict impartiality, and all interested members of the public, including political party agents, are allowed to observe.

The Parish/Ward Tribunal is appointed by the area Magistrate and consists of five members: two elders (one male and one female, each aged 60 or above) and three others appointed in consultation with political parties and organisations participating in the elections.

The Commission added that all complaints arising from the Display Exercise should be submitted to the Returning Officers of the respective Electoral Districts and will be handled in accordance with the Constitution of Uganda.
