The Chief Magistrate’s Court in Mpigi has formally charged and remanded three senior district officials, including the LC V Chairperson, over allegations of soliciting bribes from job applicants seeking government employment.

The officials charged are Martin Ssejjemba, LC V Chairperson of Mpigi District;  Fredrick Kirumira, Chairperson of the Mpigi District Service Commission; and  Sarah Nakamoga, Secretary of the District Service Commission.

The trio stands accused of demanding money by menaces, with reports indicating that job applicants were asked to pay bribes ranging from Shs50,000 to Shs15 million in exchange for securing positions within the district service.

Following the charges, the court ordered the three officials to be remanded until July 8, 2025, as investigations continue.

Their arrest follows a directive issued by President Yoweri Museveni during his Parish Development Model (PDM) monitoring tour in the Greater Mpigi area on June 17, 2025. During the visit, residents raised multiple complaints about widespread corruption in the district’s recruitment processes.

In response, President Museveni instructed Brig. Gen. Henry Isoke, head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, to take immediate action against those implicated in the alleged sale of government jobs.

Sources close to the investigation report that the Mpigi District Service Commission had become a hub of corrupt practices, where job seekers were routinely pressured to make informal payments to increase their chances of being hired.
