Congolese music legend Koffi Olomidé is set to headline a star-studded concert celebrating 50 years of Afrigo Band, Uganda’s longest-standing and most iconic musical ensemble, in what promises to be a cultural highlight of 2025.
The event, titled Legends of Sound: Afrigo@50, will take place at the Millennium Grounds in Kampala on Saturday, 16 August 2025.
Organised by Talent Africa Group in partnership with Stanbic Bank Uganda, the golden jubilee concert will honour Afrigo Band’s remarkable legacy as a cornerstone of Ugandan music and culture.
For over five decades, Afrigo Band has captivated audiences with timeless songs that blend traditional Ugandan rhythms with contemporary flair, narrating stories of resilience, joy, and national identity through music.
Stanbic Bank’s digital platform, FlexiPay, serves as both the title sponsor and official ticketing partner for the event. Tickets are now available via the FlexiPay app and USSD code *291#, with early bird offers and exclusive digital perks available to users. FlexiPay aims to ensure a smooth, cashless experience for concertgoers.
“We are proud to stand with Afrigo Band as they celebrate 50 years of musical excellence,” said Lois Kwikiriza, Brand & Marketing Manager at Stanbic Bank Uganda.
“Through FlexiPay, we’re making it easier for every Ugandan to be part of this historic occasion — securely, simply, and smartly.”
The concert is the third edition of the Legends of Sound series, which honours iconic African music pioneers. This year’s edition focuses on Afrigo Band, recognising their unrivalled contribution to Ugandan music since the 1970s. Their enduring classics continue to resonate with audiences across generations.
Afrigo’s legendary frontman, Moses Matovu, will lead a stellar lineup of veteran performers including Rachel Magoola, Joanita Kawalya, Herbert Kigundu, Sarah Namulondo, and Charles Busuulwa. Together, they will present reimagined renditions of Afrigo’s greatest hits in a dynamic, festival-style production.
Adding to the evening’s allure is a special performance by Koffi Olomidé, the Congolese superstar widely regarded as the King of Ndombolo. Renowned for his electrifying stage presence and pan-African appeal, Olomidé is expected to deliver a high-energy performance that blends seamlessly with Afrigo’s rich musical legacy.
“Afrigo Band’s journey embodies craftsmanship, depth, and timeless artistry,” said Denise P. Nazzinda, Premium Beer Brand Manager at Uganda Breweries Ltd.
“Their music has transcended generations, much like the legacy of Tusker Malt Lager. Supporting this milestone is our way of honouring true musical excellence while offering consumers the premium experiences they deserve.”
Aly Allibhai, CEO of Talent Africa Group, hailed the collaboration with Stanbic Bank and FlexiPay, highlighting the event’s significance in Uganda’s cultural calendar.
“Afrigo Band has been the heartbeat of Uganda’s music since the 1970s,” Allibhai said.
“Their songs reflect the stories of our people — tales of endurance, joy, and celebration. With Koffi Olomidé joining as a special guest, Afrigo@50 will be a vibrant celebration of legacy and cross-continental artistry.”
The event has attracted widespread corporate support from sponsors including Tusker Malt Lager, Pepsi, Toyota CFAO, and SafeBoda, among others — a reflection of its anticipated impact on both Uganda’s entertainment and business landscapes.
With just weeks to go, excitement is building for what is set to be an unforgettable evening of music, nostalgia, and African excellence.
