Busiro East Member of Parliament, Medard Lubega Sseggona, has been elected Chairman of the African Organization of Public Accounts Committees (AFROPAC), positioning Uganda at the forefront of the continent’s parliamentary oversight efforts.

Sseggona, who also chairs Uganda’s Parliament Public Accounts Committee (PAC), is currently attending a high-level AFROPAC summit in Nigeria, where his new leadership role was announced.

His election as AFROPAC Chair marks a significant milestone for Uganda’s parliamentary diplomacy, as he takes on the task of uniting Public Accounts Committees across Africa to promote accountability, transparency, and good governance.

“AFROPAC is committed to ensuring that public resources are used effectively and for the benefit of African citizens,” Sseggona said, reaffirming his dedication to ethical conduct, legal compliance, and results-oriented leadership.

Since taking over Uganda’s PAC, Sseggona has consistently advocated for strict adherence to professional standards, discipline, and time management. He has pledged to bring the same values to AFROPAC, aiming to strengthen oversight institutions through advocacy, capacity building, and research.

His presence at the Nigeria summit reflects Uganda’s increasing influence in continental parliamentary affairs and signals a renewed focus on collaborative governance reforms.

As AFROPAC Chair, Sseggona is expected to champion reforms that enhance financial oversight, improve accountability mechanisms, and foster integrity across member states—key pillars in the pursuit of a more transparent and prosperous Africa.
