The African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) Force Commander, Lt Gen Sam Kavuma, has praised Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) troops serving under National Guard Unit Eleven (UNGU-XI) for their discipline, dedication, and professionalism.

Speaking during his maiden visit to the camp, Lt Gen Kavuma expressed satisfaction with the soldiers’ vigilance and commitment to maintaining security. “You have shown seriousness and professionalism in your work, and I urge you to maintain this vigilance even when you return home to Uganda,” he said, reminding them of their identity as UPDF soldiers and the importance of upholding the force’s ethos.

Highlighting the broader purpose of their deployment, Lt Gen Kavuma emphasised the role of pan-Africanism, stating, “Our business as UPDF in Somalia is all about pan-Africanism. We must sacrifice to ensure that Somalia is stable.”

He also encouraged the troops to make use of the Wazalendo Sacco as a tool for personal development through savings and investments.

The UNGU-XI Commanding Officer, Lt Col Peter Ruyogoza Barigye, urged the soldiers to heed the Force Commander’s guidance, noting that discipline and commitment would advance both their military careers and personal growth.

The visit is expected to further enhance the operational effectiveness and cohesion of UNGU-XI forces in their mission.
