Police at Kabalagala are investigating a suspected case of rash and neglect following a powerful explosion at the sauna facility of Buziga Country Resort, located in Upper Buziga Zone, Makindye Division, Kampala.
The incident occurred on the evening of August 24, 2025, at around 8:30 p.m., leaving three female victims with serious injuries.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the victims have been identified as: Hajjat Masitula, 69, Vice Chairperson LC I of Katuso Cell, who suffered severe burns on her back, chest, and lower body; Zahara Nakawesi Kasenene, 39, who sustained burns and a fractured left leg and Mamaram Aisha, who suffered multiple severe burns across her body.
All three were initially rushed to Kiruddu Hospital for emergency treatment. Two of the victims were later transferred to Nsambya and Mulago hospitals for specialized medical care.
“Upon receiving the report, a team of officers responded immediately. Detectives and the Scene of Crime Officer documented and secured the area. The explosion caused extensive damage part of the structure collapsed, walls developed cracks, and debris, including broken glass and blood stains, was scattered across the scene,” said Owoyesigyire.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the explosion within the sauna was significant, although the exact cause is yet to be determined. Police have recorded statements from eyewitnesses and the victims.
So far, no arrests have been made, and the scene remains cordoned off as forensic experts conduct further examinations.
“We assure the public that inquiries are ongoing. Updates will be provided as the investigation progresses. The Police continue to work closely with medical teams to monitor the condition of the victims and extend support to their families,” he added.
