A member of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party and aspiring Member of Parliament for Bugangaizi East, Onesmas Twinamasiko, has been remanded to Kibaale Prison over allegations of assaulting Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.
The directive was issued by Magistrate Nazifah Namayanja of the Kibaale Magistrates Court following Twinamasiko’s appearance on charges related to the July 17, 2025 incident, which reportedly occurred at the NRM offices in Kakumiro District.
According to prosecution, a chaotic altercation erupted as NRM officials were announcing results from the party’s parliamentary primaries, leading to an alleged physical confrontation involving the Prime Minister.
Twinamasiko, who had been contesting in the primaries, was arrested shortly after the incident and formally charged with assault. He denied the charges, but the court ordered his remand pending further investigations.
The case has drawn widespread attention, with political observers noting the growing tensions within NRM’s internal electoral processes.
