Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo was on world record pace at the 2025 Chicago Marathon. While he ultimately fell short of breaking the record, Kiplimo still claimed a dominant victory.

He finished the race in 2:02:23, securing the win with a powerful performance. Kiplimo stayed near the front of the pack throughout the race, trailing 2024 champion John Korir in the early stages before making his decisive move around the halfway mark. From there, he gradually extended his lead.

Kiplimo remained on world-record pace until as late as mile 22, but he began to slow in the final stretch. By the next mile marker, he had slipped out of record-breaking range.

Still, his time of 2:02:23 is the seventh-fastest in marathon history and sets a new Ugandan national record.

Kiplimo finished just over a minute and a half ahead of Kenya’s Amos Kipruto, who surged into second place with a time of 2:03:54. Fellow Kenyan Alex Masai took third, finishing in 2:04:37.
