The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Jinja, Rt. Rev. Charles Martin Wamika, has been laid to rest at St. Joseph’s Cathedral Rubaga in Jinja.

Bishop Wamika passed away on October 22 in Jinja, and his death was announced by Fr. Gerald Muto, the Diocesan Chancellor of the Diocese of Jinja.

He was buried following a requiem mass led by Archbishop Emmanuel Obbo of the Tororo Archdiocese. His burial followed a week of mourning held at various cathedrals across Uganda.

On October 24, a requiem mass was held at Lubaga Cathedral in Kampala, followed by public viewings in Tororo, Budaka (his home district), and Iganga, before the body was brought to Jinja Diocese for his final send-off.

Bishop Wamika was the first Ugandan to lead the Diocese of Jinja since the arrival of the Mill Hill Fathers in the 1800s. He succeeded Bishop Joseph Willigers, who had served the diocese for over four decades.

The revered cleric, who reportedly succumbed to prostate cancer, had served as Bishop of Jinja since 2010, guiding the diocese with dedication and faith for 15 years.
